NetStumbler is software for Windows that makes it easy to discover 802.11b, 802.11a and 802.11g Wi-Fi networks. Kismet can also work on Windows, but either with external engines, or with the only model of card for which there is a driver capable of doing monitor mode. It works under Linux, FreeBSD, and Mac OS X. This means that it is able, without sending a detectable packet itself, to detect both the presence of access points and wireless clients, and to associate them respectively. Kismet works on 802.11 wireless networks and it is a different application from others because it does not send any detectable packets. Kismet is a free network detection software, a sniffer, and an intrusion detection system for an 802.11 wireless network. This method incorporates various statistical attacks to discover the WEP key and uses them in combination with brute force. The second method is the FMS / Korek method. The first is via the PTW approach (Pyshkin, Tews, Weinmann) which makes the attack much faster compared to other WEP cracking tools. The tool finds the WEP key using two main methods. Aircrack-ng can recover the WEP key after enough encrypted packets have been captured. Aircrack-ng is a software suite whose main use is to break the WEP and WPA keys of wifi networks.
